Firstly do understand any human being on the planet can go into Hypnosis. We all go into one of the stages of hypnosis every night while sleeping and many others 100's of times daily.
REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) is a state we go through a few times every night, we hypnotherapists access this state to connect with the subconscious mind whilst you are AWAKE, yes that's right, AWAKE, you are not asleep or under as some would think.
You are aware of things around you, hearing traffic going by or other people in the building and are in control of you, however your mind and body are relaxed allowing your conscious mind to be out of the way for the change mechanisms you require to take place.
Whats the Subconscious Mind
The part/parts of the mind that looks after all the automatic things we do underneath our conscious awareness, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure etc. The subconscious mind actually extends beyond just the head and is connected to every nerve, fiber and cell in the body as well as being connected to all our beliefs, past learnings, ways of thinking and processes we have learnt through life. Its also intrinsically connected to our emotional state, which is generated by the hormones and chemicals we generate in our stomach through our experience and representation of the world from our senses.
Any session details discussed will not be passed to any third party, other than my supervisor within The Corporation of Advanced Hypnotherapists [CAH] Est 1986, for guidance if at all necessary. The advanced hypnotherapy methods we use, do not require you to drag up or re-live your past, if you so wish, most things can be done Content Free, all is done in safety and comfort.
Can I Really Change
There is no mystery now as anyone can do it to help bring positive change to their life. You see the mind a is like a filing cabinet of all memories, with the ROOT CAUSE for problems and other connections stored deep in your sub-conscious mind at different ages and times of your life. Quality dynamic hypnosis from a hypnotherapist with the right tools is the only way to access, reboot and change the relationships your mind has made. So just like rebooting and updating a program on a computer to run more efficiently or in a different way. Therefore you see, your normal intellectual every day conscious mind can't change them, as once they are set, they are set, no matter how much you think you understand the problem, because the problem is not intellectual in nature, its usually a series of or can be just a single connection that's been made that brings about an emotional or physical response in the client... Therefore someone talking at you hoping for change is just futile, which is why most suggestion therapy out there such as (CBT) does not solve the issue and is, in most cases, just a short term fix, with the problem returning later...
Whats does Hypnosis Feel Like
First experience of hypnosis and what most remark on feeling:
Heaviness (Deep relaxation of limbs).
Sensation of sinking deeper into the chair (total relaxation).
Reluctance to wake at the end of the session as the feeling is so peaceful and serene.
A different higher level of awareness.
Feeling of serenity, peace or nothingness / clarity.
Warmth / Hot flush.
The above are usually because most people never feel this level of relaxation in their lives, due to today's busy society and pace of life and don't allow themselves the time. The above are very usual and sometimes it may, to some, seem a bit alien to the client, but that's totally normal and Ok. As the more you practice the better you are at relaxing at this new level. Like anything its a new process your learning. This level of relaxation also helps to aid your bodies recovery, rejuvenation/healing and sleep processes to bring your mind and body back into balance, a state that is really needed in today's society.
Hypnosis, tell me more ?
Like riding a bike or learning to drive a car it takes the mind normally 28 days to form a new habit / way of thinking or for it to become automatic, that's hypnosis or just one of many hypnotic states as your doing them without thinking about them and that's your sub-conscious mind. Hypnosis has been defined as a state of “altered awareness”. It is both natural and safe. We all, in fact, move in and out of hypnosis 100's of times a day without being aware of it. Driving, day dreaming and being engrossed in a novel or a film are just some of the many forms of the state we call hypnosis we encounter each day. Most of the automatic things we do without thinking are done via hypnosis ie. the sub-conscious (Breathing, walking, body repair etc.). So its just a tool to access the channel of the sub-conscious mind, that trained hypnotherapists can use to help you overcome difficulties in life.
There is NO MYSTERY.
In fact people have used it for 1000's of years, its only now that society is coming back to reusing this natural state to help us with many positive outcomes. Your mind and body already know what to do to help you, all you need is a skilled hypnotherapist to guide you. Therefore when you are in hypnosis you are fully aware of what is taking place, but are now able to concentrate more effectively and intensely on any problem or physical area, without fear and anxiety.
Sports people use hypnosis for performance, stage performers and public personalities/celebrities for positivity and confidence, dentists and hospitals for anesthesia etc. So its normal and safe.
Will I be asleep or unconscious while in hypnosis?
Definitely not. When you are in hypnosis you are alert and aware. You are not asleep. Your mind is active. Your thoughts are under your control. You are aware of things going on around you. You can hold a conversation while in hypnosis.
Are there some people who cannot enter hypnosis?
Yes – the very young 4 and below, occasionally some elderly people, someone with a severe learning disability, anyone under the influence of alcohol, and anybody who does not want to be.
Are any drugs used?
No drugs are used.
Can hypnosis be dangerous?
No absolutely not. There is nothing dangerous about hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is a proven therapeutic aid. Many people fear hypnosis, because they believe they would be under the control of the hypnotherapist. In reality you are always in control of the therapeutic situation, and can simply choose not to respond to a suggestion if you wish.. You can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time.
Could I be influenced to do anything against my will like on TV stage hypnosis?
Professional therapy and stage showmanship are two very different things. No. In fact, you would be shocked out of the hypnotic state immediately any such suggestion was made to you in a therapy session setting. While in hypnosis you wouldn’t do anything you wouldn’t normally do. It is important to remember that the subjects of stage or TV shows are all volunteers, thus willing to be uninhibited while on stage.
How many sessions will I need?
This will, of course, depend on the issue you want to solve. However, the majority of issues can be dealt with in 2 to 3 sessions, sometimes just 1 session. The maximum we do for even the most arduous conditions is 4 sessions such as Bi-Polar, OCD & some extreme addictions.
